15 Popular CBD Myths Debunked

Intro

Like with most things, CBD products have a variety of myths surrounding them. If you want to know which common CBD oil myths simply aren’t true, then keep reading below. We’ll shine a light on all of them.

CBD Gets You High

The notion that all CBD is psychoactive is entirely false. While it is true that CBD is made from hemp plants, CBD is a natural compound that is not psychoactive. That means it can never get you high.

Hemp extract can have small amounts of THC, the compound in cannabis plants that gets you high. But in order for CBD oil to be legally sold, it has to have an extremely low concentration of THC, below 0.3% to ensure there are no mind-altering effects. And because THC can only be present in tiny trace amounts, when taking CBD oil you will experience no psychoactive effects.

CBD Products Are Illegal

CBD products are legal on a federal level nationwide (legalized by the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill), as long as the included THC content is below 0.3%, ensuring that there are no psychoactive effects.

CBD is generally made from hemp plants, not marijuana. These are two different plants grown for various reasons. Hemp is legal almost everywhere in the U.S. while Marijuana is not yet. Any products with more than 0.3% THC will be considered illegal in these states, which is one of the reasons Jupiter CBD Oil always includes less than 0.3% THC.

Keep in mind that some cities and states may regulate this differently, so it’s always important to know your local laws and use discretion.

CBD Works Immediately

Typically, you can feel the effects of CBD after about 15-30 minutes when you take a sublingual tincture (take by mouth, hold under your tongue for 30 seconds, then swallow).

However, CBD takes some time to show its full effects. So it’s smart to take CBD daily for 30 days to experience the full benefits.

Some people have to use CBD for several weeks to feel the results, and that’s perfectly normal and fine. Give your body some time to adjust and you will feel incredible results.

CBD and Marijuana Are The Same Thing

No, they are not, Marijuana is a crop, and CBD is a natural compound found in hemp plants.

Here’s the deal: Marijuana plants and hemp plants are two different varieties of the same plant, cannabis. Marijuana is high in THC and low in CBD, while hemp is exactly the other way around. That’s why hemp is federally legal but marijuana not yet.

Picture it like oranges and lemons both being citrus, but orange juice is never made from lemons, right? Same deal for CBD (made from hemp) and THC (made from Marijuana).

Hemp plants can have small amounts of THC in them, but always have to be below the legal limit of 0.3% THC to ensure no psychoactive effects. In short, legal CBD products, in the US, can never be made from marijuana plants and always need to be made from hemp plants.

CBD Will Put You to Sleep

When taken correctly, it’s highly unlikely that CBD is going to make you sleepy or drowsy. In fact, CBD can make you feel more focused during the day and feel more rested at night.

While CBD does relax your body, being relaxed and feeling sleepy are two completely different states.

So you can take CBD with confidence and should never feels out of it or sleepy. Everybody is different, of course, but CBD causing drowsiness does not seem common at all.

CBD Can Convert to THC

This myth is bad science in general; a compound can not magically convert into another compound when ingested. Many people believe that some kind to CBD-to-THC conversion happens when CBD meets their stomach acid but that’s never the case.

Stomach acid exists to break down the food and drinks we consume; it is not made to cause complicated changes to other materials such as morphing CBD into THC. So feel free to ignore these claims, they are pseudoscience.

CBD is a Solution for Everything

CBD is not a miracle supplement that can fix all problems or issues. While scientists are researching the many potential powerful effects of CBD on stress, sleep, and exercise nobody should claim that CBD cures any diseases or other ailments. It’s important to leave that to doctors and scientists, who are working hard at exploring the powerful positive effects of CBD.

While CBD products do have a wide variety of amazing uses and benefits, you shouldn’t believe claims that the compound is a cure-all product. Even if CBD were able to completely get rid of one individual’s problems, there would be no guarantee this effect would work for the majority of people who decide to try a CBD product. In other words, it’s too early to make these claims but research is under way and it’s very exiting to find more uses for CBD that help people.

Taking More CBD is Better

Many people assume that by taking a higher amount of CBD, they will get better, faster, or longer-lasting effects. That’s not true.

Just like with any supplement, there is a point where you are taking too much. While CBD doesn’t seem to cause any life-threatening harm in high-doses, it doesn’t seem to always be a positive either. Too much CBD can overstimulate your ECS receptors (the tiny receptors responsibly to interact with cannabinoids like CBD). So when you overdo it, you risk losing the effectiveness of CBD, experiencing side effects, and having to take a break.

The best thing to do is to start with a low strength CBD (e.g. Jupiter’s lowest strength CBD oil in 450mg) and take only the recommended serving size once a day. Give your body 30 days to adjust to see best results, don’t rush it. To be honest, taking only the recommended amount of CBD also makes it much more affordable.

CBD Isolate Works Better

CBD isolate, as the name suggests, is processed, pure CBD and nothing else. Sounds pretty effective and good, right?

While there’s generally nothing wrong with CBD isolate, you miss out on the important other natural compounds found in the hemp plant when taking only isolate. This includes other minor cannabinoids like CBC and CBG, as well as natural compounds in hemp called terpenes.

All these natural compounds, when taken together, cause much better CBD effects. In other words, they interact synergistically and increase each other’s results. This is called the Entourage Effect and is the main reason it’s smart to take full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD extract instead of CBD isolate.

Everybody Should Use CBD

As much as we love the incredible effects of CBD and enthusiastically recommend it, this is simply not true. If you’re taking medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have medical issues, CBD may not be right for you.

Like with any new supplement, always check with your doctor before using CBD, especially if you’re on of the people mentioned above.

The same goes for (very rare) side effects. If you feel like CBD is having an adverse reaction with your body, then stop taking it immediately and consult your doctor. Everybody and every body is different, so do what’s right for you and always be responsible.

CBD Can Be Made From Any Hemp Plant

All hemp plants contain CBD but it’s smart to use CBD from the strains specifically bred for hemp oil extraction. Other industrial hemp strains are grown for paper and cloth production and therefore not ideal to extract CBD from.

Jupiter CBD, for example, is made from special hemp plants that are rich in natural CBD, other cannabinoids, and terpenes. They are only grown by family farmers in the U.S. and only using organic farming practices. Then they are harvested gently to ensure maximum potency and effectiveness.

Starting with the highest quality hemp plants and growing them sustainably and carefully is incredibly important to ensuring Jupiter makes the best CBD products you can buy.

CBD Doesn’t Have Scientific Backing

There are already an incredible amount of studies on the many positive effects of CBD on sleep, stress, and exercise. But CBD has only been legal in the USA federally since late 2018, so mainstream science is just getting started.

It’s super exciting to see the many potential uses and benefits of CBD being explored by researchers and we’re big fans of evidence-based products. Stay tuned, we will make sure to share the most important findings with you as they emerge.

CBD Doesn’t Have Side Effects

CBD is incredibly safe and no known cases exist of people having serious side effects, even when taking high amounts of CBD.

That being said, any supplement can have potential side effects. Some very rare reported side effects include diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and fatigue though studies on this have been very limited so far.

Other issues can include CBD interacting with prescription medication, which is why you should always ask your doctor before taking CBD if you use any medication or have medical issues.

CBD Won’t Show on a Drug Test

Drug tests typically test for THC, CBD’s psychoactive cousin, made from marijuana plants.

While we can’t speak for other products, Jupiter products always contain less than the legal limit of 0.3% THC. However, your body can metabolize CBD in a way that may show as a false positive on a drug test.

Additionally, since our products can contain trace amounts of THC, we cannot guarantee that you pass a drug test. So please always use discretion when using any CBD products.

In general, buy CBD sourced from legal hemp plants, which are grown to contain the minimal amount of THC.

CBD and THC Have The Same Effects

Both CBD and THC are so-called Cannabinoids – active compounds found in cannabis plants. THC is made from marijuana plants and CBD is made from hemp plants. Both of these are varieties of the cannabis plant, but that’s where the similarities end.

THC is psychoactive, meaning it makes you high. It’s the active compound found in joints and pot brownies.

CBD, on the other hand, is never psychoactive, so it can never get you high or alter your state of mind.

So while THC and CBD are distant cousins, they have very different effects and intended uses. Jupiter products are high in CBD and always have less than the legal limit of 0.3% THC, ensuring they are legal nationwide and won’t make you high.
